New Galena Girls Lacrosse Coaches Announced

Galena Lacrosse Club is proud to announce Diana Hopper and Felice Artuso as the 2017 coaches for the Galena Girls' Lacrosse team.

Mrs. Hopper is already part of the Galena Lacrosse family and has been a High Sierra Lacrosse League (HSLL) coach for U11 and U15 girls for the past three years. Her goals are to encourage a love of the sport in the High School girls and continue their tradition of excellence in the league. She holds an IDEA certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer,  an  ACSM as a Personal Fitness Instructor, and is certified by US Lacrosse in Women’s Game Level 1, Level 2, Women’s Fundamentals of Goalkeeping, and by the Positive Coaching Alliance as a  Double Goal Coach

"I would like to share the rich traditions of the oldest sport in North America, while developing each player's skills and techniques to enable their consistent growth to becoming the complete player. On and off the field, I hope to facilitate players to develop a strong personal code of conduct which reflects self-confidence, a steadfast work ethic, and team camaraderie." Coach Hopper shared when interviewed for the position.

Felice Artuso, originally from Maryland, was recruited to San Diego State University and played NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse. A communications graduate and a four-year student athlete on the SDSU Women's Lacrosse team, she shares a passion for lacrosse. After college, she was the Head Coach for Check-Hers Elite Lacrosse Club in Maryland, and has a proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment as a coach. Ms. Artuso's experience will be a draw for more female players to the Galena Lacrosse Girls team. She can share the recruiting process with our current female athletes.

Ms. Artuso holds many honors and distinctions including, MPSF Rookie of the Week, MPSF All Conference player, SDSU Women’s Lacrosse Team Rookie of the Year, Dean’s List ranking top 10% in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts, and was a 3-time Scholar Athlete.

Both women are friends on and off the field, and share great enthusiasm for the 2017 season. The Galena Lacrosse Club Board will hold a meet-and-greet soon for potential players, current players and parents. Look for upcoming announcements.

Galena Boy's and Girl's Teams Sweep High School Lacrosse Championships

Reno, Nev. (May 7, 2013)— The Galena girls’ lacrosse team won 9 – 7 in a see-saw game against the Northwest Coyotes to clinch the 2013 Girls High School Lacrosse Championship for the second year running. A strong regular season saw the Coyotes (comprised of players from Reno and McQueen high schools) put up a good fight against a short bench from Galena High School. The Grizzly girls’ team was without a number of regular players including freshman standouts Madison Bulera and Ashley Agrella. Though a few players were missing, the Grizzlies buckled down under the leadership of coaches Alex Treadwell and Rachel Kral, and the play of top scorer Kennedy Riggs. With the loss, the Coyotes finish second in the six-team league, with Bishop Manogue placing third in their first year fielding a girls’ lacrosse team.
The varsity boys’ lacrosse contest pitted the top seeds Reno and Galena in the first-ever lacrosse night-game in Grizzly Stadium.
