2017 Goalie TJ Wright Commits to NCAA Div. 1 Denver

The Galena Lacrosse Program is proud to announce that TJ Wright (2017 Goalie) of Reno, Nevada and the High Sierra Lacrosse League (HSLL) has committed to play lacrosse at the University of Denver (NCAA Division 1).
During Galena’s 2016 season, TJ’s junior year, his teammates once again voted him as a captain of the varsity team. He played in 20 regulation games, missing a handful of contests due to an injury, and finished the season with 195 saves and a 64% save percentage. He also garnered 90 ground balls, 3 goals, and 3 assists.

Nationally, TJ earned All-American and Academic All-American awards. He was the only player in Nevada to do so, and one of an elite group in the nation. Statewide, TJ was named to the Nevada All-State team along with three other players from Galena. Locally, TJ was voted 1st-team All-HSLL (2nd year in a row) and HSLL All-Academic.
TJ’s 2016 Highlights:

During Galena's 2015 campaign, TJ's sophomore season, his teammates voted him in as a captain of the varsity team. On the field, he racked up an impressive 238 saves (64%), 96 ground balls, 8 assists, and 3 goals over 23 regulation contests as the starting varsity goalie. As a result of his regular-season efforts, the HSLL's member coaches voted TJ as a 1st-team all-HSLL Goalie.
TJ is, first and foremost, an outstanding ball stopper. He couples his ball stopping ability with strong leadership on the defensive side of the field and has a tremendous upside in transition (and on offense) with his speed and athleticism upfield and outside of the crease.

In addition to playing for the Galena HS program, TJ plays competitively for the Booth Indians Elite program where he competes against top-level club teams from around the country.

TJ is the first boys lacrosse player from Northern Nevada to be recruited to play NCAA Division 1 lacrosse immediately out of high school. He is very excited to join the Denver Pioneers in the fall of 2017 and play under the guidance of legendary coach Bill Tierney and the rest of the Denver coaching staff.
It is TJ's hope, and the hope of many locally, that TJ (and his family's) efforts have paved the way for other great lacrosse players in the HSLL.

Congratulations, TJ!
